Song Yadong challenges Peter Yan, the Russian responds

Coming off a dominant but less than spectacular victory over Chris Gutierrez, UFC lightweight division number seven Song Yadong confirmed his willingness to share the octagon in three months with Petr Yan, who is scheduled to fight next on March 9 at UFC 299.

“I’m going for the belt,” the Chinese fighter said in a post-fight interview. “The next one is Peter Yan. Sign the contract! I’m going back to training tomorrow. I know you want to fight in March. Okay, let’s do it in March.”

Right during the interview, Song was told that the Russian posted a yawning emoji on social media, signaling that he was not impressed with his potential opponent’s performance.

“Your last fight was the same, bro – he looked like a d***o,” Song responded. “I’m gonna knock you out. You think you have good boxing? Alright, let’s check it out!”

The fight between Song Yadong and Chris Gutierrez, headlined by UFC Fight Night 233 in Las Vegas, went the full distance and ended with the Chinese man winning by unanimous decision with scores of 50-44 and 50-45 twice.

Former UFC lightweight champion Peter Yan suffered his third consecutive loss in March this year, losing a five-round unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili, and is currently ranked fifth in the organization’s lightweight division rankings.
