Shavkat Rakhmonov warned Islam Makhachev

UFC welterweight number nine, Shavkat Rakhmonov, has a low opinion of Islam Makhachev’s welterweight chances and advises the reigning UFC lightweight champion to stay in his division.

“Honestly, I do not advise him to lift 77 kilograms,” Nomad said in an interview. Octagon TV inc. “Let him stay at lightweight – he’s doing well there. It seems to me that this is a risk for him, he is unlikely to rise, I’m not sure about that, and even if he rises, it will be difficult for him at welterweight. If he doesn’t get takedowns, it will be too hard.”

On February 11 at UFC 284 in Perth, Islam Makhachev successfully defended his title, defeating Alexander Volkanovski by unanimous decision after five rounds, after which he announced that he was ready to fight for the welterweight championship belt if the organization gave him such an opportunity.

Recall that the welterweight title rematch between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman will headline the UFC 286 tournament in London on March 18, and Shavkat Rakhmonov this weekend at UFC 285 in Las Vegas will meet with Jeff Neil, who occupies the seventh line in the division.
