The head of the Top Rank promotional company, Bob Arum, sees nothing impossible in the fact that the rising star of profiboxing from his office, the unified world champion in WBC and WBO versions in the second featherweight (up to 59 kg) American Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) entered the ring against a compatriot from lightweight (up to 61.2 kg) Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs), who until recently represented Mayweather Promotions.
“I see no reason why not,” Arum admitted. “Shakur is without a doubt an elite talent and competitive against any of these guys. Shakur has already shown that he is very hard to beat, and in the near, foreseeable future, we will be putting Stevenson against this type of fighter. Nobody wants to see him in passing fights. People want to see him being tested, and Shakur, to his credit, wants the same.”
Arum noted that he considers Davis also an elite fighter, and considers the organization of his fights against Top Rank boxers absolutely real:
“He is an elite fighter and there will definitely be an opportunity to pair him with one of our guys in the future. Whether he is still under contract with Floyd or not.”
“It’s generally nonsense that fighters from one company don’t fight fighters from another company, I don’t believe in it. I think we showed this by organizing a lot of fights of our fighters against the guys from PBC and Golden Boy, ”summed up the functionary.
Shakur himself, meanwhile, considers himself the most risky.
