Shakur Stevenson approves fight with Cruz

Silver medalist of Rio 2016 and already ex-world pro champion Shakur Stevenson (19-0, 9 KOs) is not going to refuse the World Boxing Council’s selection match in lightweight (up to 61.2 kg) against the record slugger Isaac Cruz (24 -2-1, 17 KOs).

The 24-year-old American announced this shortly after such an option was announced at the WBC convention.

While Shakur expects megafights against the absolute Devin Haney or Vasily Lomachenko, who can beat the first and take all the titles in his hands, he does not seem to deny other fights.

“I don’t dodge or run from anyone,” the American said on Twitter when asked if he would refuse to fight Cruz.

He further added that in 2023 he will compete for the No. 1 position in the pound-for-pound ratings. One analyst believes that Lomachenko will no longer be able to defeat Stevenson, who wants the Super Six at lightweight and “a lot of money.”
