Russian MMA fighter Sergey Kharitonov, in an interview with SE, said that he remains in the Bellator roster, although he will fight in Eagle FC.
The first Eagle FC tournament in the USA will take place on January 28 in Miami. Kharitonov will fight in the main fight of the evening, his opponent will be Tyrone Spong from Suriname. The league is owned by former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The promotion will have two offices: Russian (headed by Shamil Zavurov) and American (headed by Rizvan Magomedov) headquartered in Miami.
– Do I understand correctly that you are no longer a Bellator fighter, given that you signed a contract with a de facto American company? — a question for Kharitonov.
– I’m a Bellator fighter, stop doing nonsense. I am a Bellator fighter. I was just offered to fight in Khabib’s organization. I agreed, replaced Silva.
– But Bellator has a rule: a fighter can fight in another promotion, but not in the USA.
– Miami is not the USA, Miami is a separate America (laughs). Miami is a different country. This is America, but the other America is ours.
Bellator contracts are usually for six fights. And I thought like this: that you had six fights, and now your contract has expired.
— I signed a new contract [с Bellator].
— After the fight with Cheick Kongo?
– Signed before the fight with Kongo.
– You were not scolded at Bellator for what you said about Fedor’s fight? (In November, Kharitonov opined that Timothy Johnson had deliberately lost to Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator 269.)
– No one said anything. It’s my personal opinion. And I didn’t blame anyone, I didn’t say that it was an iron contract. I just saw the fight with my own eyes and expressed what I think.
