UFC middleweight No. 7 Sean Strickland shared the details of a tough sparring with Russian light heavyweight Maxim Grishin.
“Coming home from Vegas and I think a lot of you haters will be happy to hear that I got dropped the other day,” Strickland said in a video message on his Instagram. “Live by the sword and die by the sword” – I love to play these dangerous games. We constantly cut with Max, there are wars between us.
And in this sparring, he wanted to knock me out, I wanted to knock him out, and 5 seconds before the end he dived, and I hit him in the temple with my elbow. It was a great hit, by the way. But he hit back and dropped me. I jumped up, caught on to him, but my coach took me by the scruff of the neck and pushed me out of the gym. Otherwise, I would have continued to cut further. That was some good shit, Max, thanks for making me humble. I want a rematch. I guess I’ll eventually get encephalopathy from all these sparring wars, but I need them to get myself into a fight.”
Strickland will face Jack Hermansson on February 5 at UFC Fight Night.
