Covington previously said he would be willing to share the octagon with Strickland after taking the UFC welterweight title from Brit Leon Edwards this weekend at UFC 296 in Las Vegas.
Sean Strickland, who sensationally captured the UFC middleweight championship belt from Israel Adesanya this past September, will make his first title defense on Jan. 20 at UFC 297 in Toronto against South African Dricus Du Plessis.
That said, Covington and Strickland have already talked about wanting to compete at the UFC 300 anniversary event next April.
