Sean Strickland broke the UFC championship belt

Two days after defeating Israel Adesanya, the new UFC middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, showed fans his broken championship belt.

“Guys, I’ve already broken my belt, but I have a solution,” the American stated in a published video, fixing the broken piece with duct tape. “Good as new!”

“Is it just me or did this belt just get a lot better?” the UFC champion wrote in a comment.

Last weekend at UFC 293 in Sydney, Sean Strickland stepped in to fight six-time underdog Israel Adesanya and sensationally defeated the Nigerian, winning the bout by unanimous decision 49-46 twice, coming close to knocking out the champion in the first round.

In an interview before the fight, the American said that he would probably auction off the championship belt he won, and after the fight he confirmed that the title was of little importance to him.

“The interesting thing is that this belt means nothing to me – yes, I like it and I won it, but at the end of the day, I just love the sport,” Strickland said at a press conference in Sydney. “This gold shiny thing doesn’t make me happy. I don’t really know what makes me happy myself.”
