Sean O’Malley gave the reason for Conor McGregor’s absence

The world’s strongest league is in no hurry to see Conor McGregor return to the octagon as the Irishman’s fights have become a loss-making event for the organization, according to current UFC lightweight champion Sean O’Malley.

“Isn’t he getting so much money per fight that it’s not benefiting the UFC?” the American was quoted as saying by MMAnews. “Like, they lose money when he fights. I’ve heard that kind of talk.”

A few days earlier, Conor McGregor issued an ultimatum to the UFC, threatening to open negotiations for a boxing match against Manny Pacquiao if the league’s management didn’t schedule a fight for him soon.

“No one in the history of the game has been treated as badly as I’m being treated right now,” the former UFC double champion said. “I sell more than all the fighters combined and I don’t deserve to be treated like this. I’m waiting, but my patience is running out.”

Last week, the Irishman’s manager, Odi Attar, announced that he is trying to secure a spot on the card for the UFC 300 anniversary event, which takes place April 13 in Las Vegas. McGregor’s most likely opponent is American Michael Chandler, with whom the Irish fighter coached rival teams in the last season of TUF.
