Roy Jones names Golovkin’s biggest advantage over Canelo

This Saturday T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (USA) will host the third fight between Mexican Saul Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) and Kazakh Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs). Their confrontation began in 2017 with a fighting draw, and 12 months later, Canelo won.

Fans and bookmakers consider the Mexican to be the clear favorite, because Golovkin has already exchanged his fifth decade and for him the upcoming fight is his debut in the new weight – they will fight for all the belts of the super-middle division, and the previous two fights took place in the lower category.

The legendary Roy Jones Jr. offers not
write off a veteran from the accounts, because he allegedly has a solid advantage: “We put everything on Canelo, forgetting about an important factor – motivation. We forget that Golovkin has been living on his third fight with Canelo in recent years, because he believes that he was robbed in previous fights. He bit the bit and sought a third fight. On the contrary, Canelo lost to Dmitry Bivol in the previous fight. And in that fight, he did not look like a fighter who is ready for anything to win.”

“Do not underestimate the factor of motivation,” the legend reminds. And so the question arises: what motivates Canelo? And which of the two is more motivated? Motivation is the very thing that keeps you going. So which one is more motivated? Is it Golovkin? Or is it Canelo? Which of them wants to win the third match more? And I am sure that Golovkin’s motivation is many times stronger than Canelo’s motivation. Therefore, for me the only question is whether he has enough motivation to win. I do not know this. He is, after all, 40 years old. But I’m sure he’ll do everything in his power.”

Jones talked about Canelo’s words that there was a personal feud between him and Golovkin: “I really don’t think that Gennady feels towards Alvarez the same way that he feels towards him. But I do not rule out that Canelo simply realized that enmity and hatred help in the sale of PPV broadcasts. To be honest, it still seems to me that in this case this is not a real enmity … “

Earlier, Jesse Lomachenko shared his prediction for the third fight. And Canelo’s mentor named the culprit behind Golovkin’s defeat in the rematch. The Kazakhstani had to answer the question “why does he still not knock out Alvarez?”
