American boxing legend Roy Jones Jr was asked to name the best current boxer in the world. He failed to identify one and immediately named two champions.
“I won’t name one, but, perhaps, you need to choose between Terence Crawford and Tyson Fury,”
thinks Jones.
Both fighters are in the top 10 of the P4P rating. American welterweight Crawford conquered three weight divisions, became the undisputed champion in the light middleweight division.
The British heavyweight Fury was not an absolute, but at one time he owned all the major championship belts, taking them one by one from the long-playing heavyweight leaders – Vladimir Klitschko from Ukraine (WBA Super, IBF and WBO) and American Deontay Wilder (WBC).
If everything goes according to plan, then in the first half of 2023, Fury will meet with the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk – the absolute heavyweight champion will be determined in a face-to-face fight.
Crawford can also take aim at all four division belts – he needs a victory over compatriot Errol Spence. Old school boxing fans have been dreaming about this fight for many years.
Jones has recently been working on a coaching path. He fantasizes that his charge “Eubank meets Golovkin” and believes that there is no way Joshua can fight Wilder right now. For Anthony, he has a plan ready: “… and then we’ll go to Usyk or Fury.”
