Robert Whittaker clarified the situation on the fight with Khamzat Chimaev

The information that he was offered a fight against Khamzat Chimaev is not true, claims former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.

“Someone said that Chimaev offered me a fight, and I refused,” the Australian said in the next episode of the MMArcade podcast. “I was never offered a fight with Chimaev, that’s all. Dot. I wasn’t offered any fights at all.”

According to Whittaker, he was given in the UFC to understand that matchmakers will begin work on his fight after the title rematch between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya, who will head the UFC 287 tournament in Miami this weekend, takes place.

“I just waited and then contacted the UFC and asked what was going on and they said, ‘Let’s wait and see how the title fight goes’. They didn’t send me contracts with the name of Chimaev or any other – this simply didn’t happen. ”

Robert Whittaker fought his last fight in September last year, defeating Italian Marvin Vettori by unanimous decision in three rounds, and Khamzat Chimaev is rumored to face Brazilian Paulo Costa on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
