Robert Garcia wants Joshua to train in California

American-Mexican mentor Robert Garcia is ready to continue cooperation with former two-time unified heavyweight champion Briton Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs). But the coach would like the fighter to hold training camps not in Britain, but in California (USA).

“I told Anthony and his team about it,”
tells Garcia. – He said that if they are interested in further cooperation, then it would be best if he moves to California with me 8 weeks before the fight. It’s not just about training in my gym. I want there to be more boxers around, to be more competitive. I think that this is exactly what was missing in his room. There were not enough fighters who would not want to give the opponent a single round even in sparring.

According to Garcia, “Joshua doesn’t need privacy while preparing. On the contrary, he needs other champions around. He needs a different environment – more cheerful and friendly.

Earlier, Mexican coach Eddie Reynoso, who was also considered as a potential coach for Joshua, spoke about the same thing. Later, the Briton admitted that the final choice fell on Garcia after Reynoso refused to train heavyweight in Britain.

Joshua returned to the gym yesterday. Showed me where I started. Garcia did not help the Briton beat the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch. Joshua called the reason for the defeat, hinting at the coach’s mistake. And he replied that the battle was lost to Usyk even before the final gong.
