American coach Robert Garcia did not help British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) beat Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) in rematch – the second fight took place in August, ending in a heavy victory for the favorite.
Immediately after that, Joshua decided to change his mentor. Garcia
claims, which is not offended by the ex-ward: “I consider him an excellent athlete. I liked that he personally called me to inform me of the decision. As far as I understand, he will now work with Derrick James. I think this is an excellent choice. Especially if Joshua trains in the US next to James’ fighters like Errol Spence, Jermell Charlo and Frank Martin.”
Garcia recalls that he had a very difficult task: “They turned to me on the eve of a rematch with Usyk. After a completely lost first battle. That is, at the most difficult moment. Moreover, Anthony had to be prepared against one of the best fighters in the world “pound”. A priori, a very difficult task. But now Joshua is easier. He needs to spend 2-3 intermediate fights. After that, he will be ready to fight for the title again.”
Garcia believes that Joshua is capable of becoming a three-time world champion, because “no one knows what will happen tomorrow. If the reigning world champions Usyk and Tyson Fury unify, earn tens of millions of US dollars, then it is possible that they will immediately end their careers or simply give up titles. So I am 100% sure that Joshua will still have a chance to become world champion. I’m sure he will be offered a fight for the vacant belt. I think this is the ideal scenario. I mean, perfect for Joshua. It looks like his team thinks the same way.”
The Briton will return to the ring in the spring. Who will he fight? The local observer was surprised by the answer. But, according to rumors, there is a new favorite for the fight with Joshua. In the meantime, Filip Hrgovic told why the Briton became “everything bad.”
