Robeicy Ramirez to fight ex-world champion on April Fool’s Day

Two-time Olympic champion from Cuba Robeysi Ramirez (11-1, 7 KOs) and ex-world champion in the second bantamweight Isaac Dogbo (24-2, 15 KOs) from Ghana will fight on April 1 in Tulsa (USA).

The fight will be sanctioned by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) as a featherweight (up to 57.2 kg), however, it is not yet known what status it will be given.

First information
made public insider Mike Coppinger from ESPN.

Note that the WBO world champion in 57.2 kg at the moment is the Mexican Emanuel Navarrete (36-1, 30 KOs), who in early February will challenge the vacant title of the same organization in 59 kg. If the fight against Liam Wilson ends in favor of Navarrete, he will have to decide in which category he will continue to compete.

It can be assumed that Ramirez and Dogbo will determine the “interim” world champion if Emanuel decides to return to 57.2 kg. If Navarrete stays at 59kg, then Robeisey and Isaac will most likely fight for the full title right away.

It is noteworthy that the other day the WBC appointed a candidate fight between Dogbo and Mark Magsio, so now the latter will have to look for a new opponent.

After two consecutive losses to Navarrete, Dogbo is on a streak of four victories, although he won the last three on points with disagreements between the judges.

Ramirez lost his debut fight in profiring, after which he gathered himself and goes without a hitch. In 2022, he has three early victories on his account.

We add that Dogbo ranks first in the WBO featherweight ranking, while Ramirez is in 3rd position.

Last year, Robeisi answered a question about a possible rematch with Shakur Stevenson.
