American Omar Figueroa (28-2-1, 19 KOs) will still perform as part of the boxing evening on August 20 in Hollywood (USA), despite the fact that today his original rival Adrien Browner unexpectedly (?) refused to enter the ring, preferring the duel to continue the struggle with internal demons.
A few hours after Broner’s demarche, it turned out that Figueroa would box at the appointed time with another former world champion, representative of Kazakhstan Sergey Lipinets (16-2-1, 12 KOs).
It should be noted that before that Lipinets had to meet with Paraguayan Carlos Portillo within the framework of the same show.
33-year-old Sergey held the IBF super lightweight title (up to 63.5 kg) in 2017-2018, losing his first defense to Mikey Garcia. After that, he moved to welterweight and scored three wins and also ended one fight in a draw before losing early (KO 6) to Jaron Ennis in April 2021. Since then, Lipinets has not performed.
Previously, Figueroa had already reacted to Broner’s decision: “Fuck you! Infantile ass!”
