Rematch: Martinez beat Ancajas again – video

Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California, USA. In the rematch, Filipino Jervin Ancajas (33-3-2, 22 KOs) again lost to Argentinean Fernando Martinez (15-0, 8 KOs) – he failed to take revenge for the February defeat. Martinez remained the IBF world champion in the second flyweight (up to 52.2 kg). And the Philippines were left without world champions.

The champion started the fight aggressively, quickly reduced the distance, threw heavy combinations, hit with a sweeping left hook. Ancajas tried to use the jab more often, to move more. In which case, he immediately clinched.

Martinez may have been a little burnt out. He fought as if he absolutely needed to knock out the challenger in the opening rounds – he threw himself sweepingly, often smeared, amusingly falling behind blows and flying into the ropes. Ancajas clearly took into account the mistakes of the previous fight – not only failed well, but also clearly countered, met well, moved.

In the 4th round, the fighters hacked hard in the center of the ring. Cool fight and competitive. Martinez works better on the body, Ancajas is more accurate in headhunting. In the 6th three-minute period, the applicant still got it well – he was squeezed into the corner of the ring, at times he did not even respond with blows to blows.

In the 7th round, the referee suspended the fight – the Argentinean and the Filipino collided heads. The fight resumed, the former and current champions threw an even more fierce slugfest. Martinez, the bet played – blows to the body slowed down Ancajas, deprived him of the advantage in footwork. After that, the champion began to confidently record round after round in his piggy bank, and the referee nervously yelled at the challenger: “Show me at least something …”

Ancajas heard the third in the ring and gave a very solid 9th round. Martinez is some kind of tank – he knocks through the blows of the Filipino, simply not noticing them. In the 11th round, he fell and hurt his leg. Perhaps Ancajas should have gone for broke, but he did not risk it. Martinez offered the challenger to work as the first number in the final round – he picked up blows, but never fell. The winner is obvious – Fernando is simply stronger than Jervin.

Judges’ verdict: 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110 in favor of the Argentine.

Martinez UD 12.
