Ex-champion and contender for the vacant WBC super lightweight title, American Regis Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs) is unhappy that the face-to-face fight between star compatriots Errol Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) and Terence Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) KO) for the title of absolute in the welterweight did not take place.
There are rumors on the sidelines that this fight will never take place. Prograis also heard about it: “What is happening in our sport is just terrible. As far as I know, at this age, Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns have already had two face-to-face fights. But Spence and Crawford are not getting any younger. But time spares no one. I’m not saying they’re already showing signs of wear and tear, but it can happen at any time.”
Prograis declined to blame any particular party for the breakdown in negotiations: “In this matter, I am exactly the same boxing fan as you are. I just want the dudes to finally determine the strongest in a face-to-face fight. But, alas, I can’t do anything about it. I’ll tell you this. If this fight never happens, and this is being talked about more and more on the sidelines, then I will continue to support both.”
It is possible that Spence will rise in weight and fight with the absolute 69.9 kg compatriot Jermell Charlo. Prograis hopes that “it still won’t come to that. It’s a shame if Spence faces Charlo without fighting Crawford. But if from a business point of view, the fight with Terence does not shine for him, then, I believe, the fight with Jermell will take place. I just don’t want the Spence-Crawford fight to never happen.”
Progries failed to name a favorite in the Spence-Charlo fight: “Here’s the thing. I don’t really know what’s going to happen in their face-to-face fight. They spar together all the time. But if they meet in battle, then simply unrealistically huge money will be at stake. I am sure that if it comes to this fight, there will be just a lot of dough. I will definitely watch this fight. But to be honest, I don’t want them to beat each other. And if the fight takes place, then this will certainly happen – they will pile on each other well.
This weekend, Prograis will try to take the WBC belt – keep the forecast and bets on his fight with Jose Cepeda.
Why didn’t Crawford and Spence agree on a fight? Teofimo Lopez has a beautiful answer. Last week, Terence “blew” Errol’s opposition – it turned out ridiculous.
