Porter reveals key to Joshua victory in Usyk rematch

American columnist and former world champion Sean Porter called the key to the victory of British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) in a rematch with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs).

On the eve of the second fight, bookmakers consider the current champion to be the favorite.
Porter calls Don’t write off the challenger: “Joshua has a chance. He also has (new coach) Robert Garcia. Yes, it is impossible to change a fighter in one training camp. And, to be honest, I don’t know how long they’ve been working together. But I believe that Robert can be the decisive factor that will allow Joshua to throw more punches in a rematch and increase the pace of the fight.

“For me, the key to beating Usyk is more pace and more aggressive boxing,” says Porter. – Catching Usyk in a tactical confrontation is less likely for Joshua. That is, to beat Alexander, he needs a knockout. Yes, I would still bet on Usyk. Talking about Joshua not keeping up with the pace?.. You know, that’s the whole point of preparation. That’s what camps are for. If he correctly saturates the muscles with oxygen, then in battle this will allow him to raise the pace. It is wrong to think that the whole thing is only in the mass. That if you weigh more, you will get tired faster during the fight and will not be able to throw punches.

“If the main key to defeating Usyk is to significantly increase the number of thrown punches, then the task of Joshua and his team is precisely this. That is, to find a way to achieve this. This is real. You know, it was once believed that a fighter does not need to pull iron. Allegedly, this also slows him down in battle by clogging his muscles. Yes, I partially agree with this. But there are plenty of options for how to deal with this, starting with massage. In the process of training, it is impossible to refuse strength exercises. But at the same time, it is best to work in parallel and on your endurance. These things are interconnected. Endurance helps you, gives you the strength to plow in the camp. Now more and more fighters combine these programs. And according to their results, it is obvious that such a combination is bearing fruit, ”Porter shared his expert opinion.

The Usyk vs Joshua 2 fight will take place on August 20 in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), and their first confrontation (September 2021, London, England) is left to the Ukrainian.

The champion’s promoter claims that Usyk will have to go through hell. And the Ukrainian, meanwhile, is already looking behind Joshua: Usyk said that Fury is next.
