Petr Yan was unable to avoid surgery

Former UFC flyweight champion Peter Yan, who a week ago put his career back on track after three consecutive losses, will undergo surgery before he begins preparations for his next fight.

The Russian fighter told his fans on social media by recording a video in his hospital room.

“Friends, hello everyone, I’m in the hospital, tomorrow I have surgery, so, don’t lose!”, – stated Yan.

On March 9 at UFC 299 in Miami, Petr Yan defeated China’s Song Yadong by unanimous decision over three rounds to retain his fourth place ranking in the UFC’s lightweight division.

Prior to that, the Russian, who returned to the octagon after a one-year hiatus, suffered three straight losses, losing by split decisions to Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley, as well as a unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili.

The manager of former UFC champion Sayat Abdrakhmanov said in a recent interview that he injured his knee in the fight with the Chinese representative, possibly damaging the meniscus.
