Petr Yan: “I stepped on a dark stripe”

Former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan has gone out of his way to answer the question of when he plans to return to the octagon.

“Now, yes, I stepped on some kind of dark obstacle course, but to learn how to swim, you need to swim,” the 30-year-old Russian said at a press conference in Yekaterinburg. “Therefore, it’s the same for me – I need to work harder to come back”

In March of this year, Petr Yan suffered a third defeat in a row, losing in five rounds by unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili. Prior to that, he had lost split decisions to Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley.

At the moment, the Russian fighter occupies the fourth line in the UFC lightest division ranking, and Ecuadorian Marlon Vera and American Rob Font, who are in fifth and sixth place in the top ten, respectively, have publicly announced their desire to fight him.
