Paul Heyman: Brock Lesnar showing a ‘different side of his personality’ during current run with WWE

Few people know Brock Lesnar better than WWE personality Paul Heyman.

Serving Lesnar as both his “advocate” and on-screen manager, Heyman spent many years with Lesnar behind-the scenes.

Ahead of WrestleMania 38 on Sunday, Heyman’s role in WWE is currently aligned with Roman Reigns (real name Leati Joseph Anoa`i), which means Lesnar has been on his own to speak on the microphone and build his own hype leading up to matches. Lesnar’s personality has changed a lot since then. He is now more open-minded and joking on the mic, often getting his audience laughing along. This contrasts with the grimaced, stoic look that Lesnar used to sport when he was in WWE.

According to Heyman this was always Lesnar’s personality but he never felt the need to display that side until now.

“He didn’t need to [show this side of himself],” Heyman told The MMA Hour. It wasn’t yet. This is why you couldn’t view ‘The Tribal chief’ . You had to see the Samoan badass of The Shield, you had to see the big dog and you keep on elevating and enhancing and upgrading until finally Roman Reigns was ready to reveal ‘The Tribal Chief.’

“This is part of Brock Lesnar’s personality. Brock Lesnar is not a one-dimensional human being. Brock Lesnar is barely human. He’s a beast.”

While Lesnar’s boisterous personality might be a surprise to many WWE fans, Heyman already saw some of it shining through when the one-time NCAA wrestling heavyweight champion crossed over for his career in mixed martial arts.

While Lesnar competed in the UFC’s main event, he was often on his own conducting interviews. Heyman also saw glimpses that Lesnar looked like the person WWE fans now recognize.

“I’ve seen this side of his personality for 20 something years. Heyman stated that he showed signs of it in UFC. He said that there was a famous moment when he was asked his opinion on Junior dos Santos while he was doing The Ultimate Fighter . It was a chaotic scene.

“Brock Lesnar is a comedian with a wonderful sense of humor. However, he never had the opportunity to use it in WWE. Some of this humor was displayed in UFC. .”

In many ways the present Lesnar version is the authentic one, since Heyman claims it’s the exact same Lesnar he was with outside the professional wrestling ring.

Now Heyman is happy to see WWE fans beginning to understand that there’s more to Lesnar than just a hulking heavyweight known for explosiveness in the ring, because he’s displaying that same kind of attitude on the microphone as well.

“This new Brock Lesnar version is for the WWE crowd,” Heyman stated.

“This’s what he looks like at his farm. This is what he’s like when he’s hunting. This is offseason Brock. He brought offseason Brock to fight season business this time around because he was going to have to have to show a different side of his personality since I was attached to the hip of Roman Reigns.”
