Ortiz returns after a terrible illness

American prospect-knockout Virgil Ortiz (18-0, 18 KOs) will return to the ring on Saturday, August 6, in a duel with unbeaten Briton Michael McKinson (21-0, 2 KOs). The 12-round welterweight bout will take place at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, USA and will be broadcast on DAZN.

Originally scheduled for March 19 in Los Angeles, the fight fell through as Ortiz ended up in the emergency room with rhabdomyolysis. Now, according to Virgil, he is allegedly 100% healthy. Although promoter Oscar De La Hoya previously said that Ortiz had already failed his liver.

“Very happy to get back in the ring,” said the puncher. “I’m ready to show the world again why I’m ready for the title.”

“I will get what I deserve,” says the British underdog. “I was ready to fight Ortiz before; and now I have another opportunity to prove that I am the best in the division.”

Ex-champion David Avanesyan seemed to be able to fight Virgil on August 24, but then he allegedly ran away from the American.

And in the spring, McKinson outplayed Martin.
