As we warned in the article The main fights of January 2023 in boxing, one of the top 5 fights of the month was disrupted – the fight for the WBC title in the cruiserweight between the champion from the DR Congo Ilunga Makabu (29-2, 25 KOs) and the challenger representing Germany, a native of Armenia Noel Gevor (26-2, 11 KOs).
About this with reference to unnamed sources
reported top columnist Dan Rafael: “The Makabu vs Gevor fight that promoter Don King announced last month on January 21st in Miami will not take place. King is still planning on hosting the show, which will now headline a heavyweight bout between Bermain Stivern and Jonathan Guidry.”
The reasons for the cancellation (postponement?) of the fight are not reported, but both the champion and the challenger on the contract Don King Productions.
Makabu previously dreamed of a fight with Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez, but “Canelo never showed up.”
