Not Garcia. Davis to fight ex-champion in three weights – rumors

On the sidelines, there are rumors that the WBA World lightweight title holder, American puncher Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) will not meet his compatriot antagonist Ryan “King” Garcia (23-0, 25 KOs) in the next fight. 19 KO), since Showtime TV channel and
DAZN streaming
failed to agree on the rights to broadcast the event. Both sides are primarily interested in the US market – no one is ready to concede.

Rumor has it that Davis will still fight at the beginning of the year. And the once-popular conqueror of three weight divisions, the Mexican Abner Mares (31-3-2, 15 KOs), is being matched with him as rivals.

The fight Davis vs Mares was supposed to take place back in 2019, but the Mexican was forced to end his career altogether due to health problems (retinal detachment) and temporarily switched to commentary work.

This year, the 36-year-old Mares resumed his career, had a moderate intermediate fight with compatriot Miguel Flores – he looked bright at the start of the fight, but then lost the initiative and was satisfied with a draw.

Davis indirectly confirmed that he would be returning to the ring in January with a very short tweet:

But a fighter often leaves messages that he later deletes. According to him, “this is how he indulges in social networks when he has nothing to do.”

But Mares recently hinted that he would soon return to the ring: “It’s all about forward movement. I will announce the date of the fight soon.

However, a huge number of observers refuse to believe that this fight will take place, as it smacks of a solid mismatch.

Last month, it was reported that Davis and Garcia agreed to fight in January at a catchweight. But do not rush to rejoice. The fighters brightly joined in the promotion and even almost got into a fight in a nightclub. How it was: versions of the parties. Meanwhile, the great Andre Ward named the favorite of this fight.
