Nelson on Joshua, Fury and Usyk: ‘Fans have short memories’

Ex-cruiserweight champion and current boxing columnist Johnny Nelson has recently stopped “poisoning” the unified heavyweight champion Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) and switched to former WBA Super, IBF and WBO belt holder Briton Anthony Joshua (24- 2, 22 KOs).

Over the weekend, Usyk beat Joshua for the second time in a row. The loser after the fight could not control his emotions. Nelson decided to take a little ride on his compatriot, but
did it gracefully: “On Saturday, Anthony faced reality hard. He met someone who is simply better. The reality for him is that this fact will now have to come to terms. And we saw it all on Saturday. His frustration and confusion. I talked about the fact that he could end his career in the event of a second defeat in a row. But he only meant that now Anthony must make a decision – is he ready to act as a backup dancer? Is he ready to come to terms with the fact that he is no longer the best?

“Do you want a third fight? Well, he will have 100 fights with Usyk. So what? If you’re lucky, then in 1 out of 100 you can win. Understand, he realized after the fight that it was better for him not to speak. Usyk was always one step ahead. And in the end, Joshua was broken by the realization of this fact. I agree that his team did not work well. They needed to take the fighter away immediately after the defeat. He looked stupid, but it’s really just emotions. We’ve all been through this where emotions kick in and we act like we’re crazy. It’s just that Joshua was unlucky that all this happened in front of the whole world. I am sure that he had breakdowns before, including in the camp, ”Nelson is sure.

The expert claims that he is a little annoyed by Joshua’s criticism: “Did you not like what he said in the ring? Wait a minute, don’t you think that the same Tyson Fury has said and done much more strange and stupid things before. Well, so what? Now he is a hero to all of you. Fans just have a short memory. And now Joshua has exactly the same difficult moment. Let’s give him credit for admitting his behavior was stupid and inappropriate. But he gave Usyk a really good fight. What the heck? Let’s talk about the fight rather than what happened next.”

Interesting moment: just in case, we recall that Nelson works as a columnist for the Sky Sports channel, on which Joshua spent all his previous fights. Further fights of the ex-champion will be broadcast exclusively
DAZN streaming.

Rumor has it that Fury would offer Joshua a fight? But his promoter Warren called more sane options for Anthony. What’s next for the ex-world champion? We have an answer – it’s in Joshua’s note after Usyk: when and with whom is the next fight? All options.
