Negotiations have begun on the Haney-Lomachenko fight. Champion’s father comments

promotion company Top Rank announces that negotiations have already begun on organizing a fight for the title of absolute lightweight champion between the current holder of all belts American Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) and ex-division hegemon Vasyl Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) from Ukraine .

Father/Champion Coach Bill Haney
confirmed information and shared his opinion about the upcoming fight: “Lomachenko is an amazing fighter, but we have already seen him lose to the much bigger Teofimo Lopez in 2020. Teofimo looked in that fight somewhere 7-9 kg heavier than the Ukrainian. Yes, it is believed that Vasily will become our next opponent. We are all for. Let’s do this fight.”

In the words of Haney the father, “Right now we are not interested in any other fight. No, don’t ask me about what will happen after Lomachenko. We are not going to run ahead of the locomotive. And we don’t think about what the fans will say (hints to talk that the Ukrainian has passed his career peak). Lomachenko is not some ordinary character in the world of boxing. He has a great team behind him. And his father is an incredible coach. So our task is to look as good as possible on the night of the fight. We look forward to it.”

Yesterday, an expert assessed Lomachenko’s chances to beat Haney. In the meantime, they say that the Ukrainian deliberately performed poorly in the previous battle. Egis Klimas comments.
