UFC on ESPN 39 tournament bout
The fight will take place on July 10 in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA) at the UFC Apex complex and will be part of the main card of the UFC on ESPN 39 (or UFC Vegas 58) tournament. Estimated start of the battle – 04:00 Kyiv time. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports.
Veteran lightweight Michael Johnson (20-17) will take on star-struck Jamie Mullarkey (14-5).
Johnson returned with a win in May, knocking out Alan Patrick in the second round. With this, Michael closed a losing streak against Josh Emmett, Stevie Ray, Thiago Moises and Clay Guida.
Mullarkey should close the loss he suffered at the hands of Jalyn Turner in March at UFC 272, after being stopped by punches in the second round. For Mullarkey, it was the third loss in five fights in the UFC.
Johnson definitely lost his best form a few years ago. Despite success in the fight with Patrick, his career is on the decline. Johnson is still quick and can be competitive on the stand with mid-level strikers in his division.
Mullarkey is 9 years younger, and as a drummer he is also quite good. Moreover, it can even surpass the veteran in this component due to a rich arsenal. Mullarkey could also take advantage of Johnson’s traditionally poor grappling, but it’s still likely that Jamie will outbid his opponent on the stand and eventually earn a third UFC win either by a judge’s decision or a late knockout.
