Michael Chandler responded to Islam Makhachev about the fight

Former Bellator champion and former UFC lightweight title challenger Michael Chandler responded to Islam Makhachev, who asked the organization’s management when his next fight would take place and who would be his opponent.

“Our time is approaching,” the American fighter wrote on the social network, quoting the Russian, and also noting UFC President Dana White.

According to available information, Islam Makhachev is due to defend his lightweight title on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, and Michael Chandler is scheduled to fight Conor McGregor in December, however, none of these fights has yet been officially announced.

Perhaps Chandler’s statement indicates that he considers the fight with McGregor to be a challenge, or, the American no longer believes that his fight with the Irishman will take place, and makes it clear that he would like to challenge the champion.

At the moment, the main candidate for the fight with the Russian is Charles Oliveira, who defeated Benil Dariush in the Candidates fight, however, over the weekend, the Brazilian said that he was not ready to fight in October, asking to postpone the title fight to November or December.

Also up for the fight with Makhchev are the reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and the winner of the fight between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, who will headline UFC 291 on July 29 and play for the vacant BMF title.
