Toyota Arena, Ontario, California, USA. On the undercard, the top lightweight contender (up to 61.2 kg) Mexican William Cepeda (26-0, 23 KOs) staged a slugfest and successfully outplayed former Nicaraguan world champion Rene Alvarado (32-12, 20 KOs) in it.
In the opening round, Cepeda decided to test out his opponent: he was in no hurry, worked in twos, minimized the risks. The favorite realized that the underdog would try to box with a counter puncher. In the 2nd three-minute period, the Mexican began to do what was expected of him – he began to rapidly increase the pace and density of the battle.
Cepeda is left-handed. The pace is reminiscent of the early Vasily Lomachenko. And sometimes, in the same way, he goes to the side under the left hook. But still, he is primarily a Mexican, so there are much more mahach and unjustified exchanges in his boxing than jewelry played combinations.
Cepeda and Alvarado staged a furious and competitive fight. The Mexican threw more, and his punches were a little harder, but with accuracy, the Nicaraguan was a little better. He also proved that the favorite has serious problems with defense, which is why it is too early for him to raise the level of opposition.

Cepeda tried to make the fight even tighter, but Alvarado himself was a fan of mahach – despite the fact that he had previously performed in a lower division, he took the cabin, steadfastly responded with blows to blows. In the second half of the battle, the effectiveness of his counterattacks slightly decreased, but until the equator the battle was absolutely equal. Cool fight!
