In the 2nd round, the champion took aim with heavy right overhands. The Mexican was increasingly hiding in clinches. The fight turned into a one-sided beating. In the corner, the contenders decided not to pull, quickly capitulated.

Richard had several local successes, but he was sorely lacking a sane jab, and he was also inferior in speed. Ford not only reworked his opponent – he was also much more accurate.
