Mayra Bueno Silva failed a doping test

The UFC’s No. 3 ranked women’s flyweight division, Mayra Bueno Silva, who defeated Holly Holm by choke this past July, will have to say goodbye to her dreams of stepping into a championship fight anytime soon.

According to the Brazilian, a banned substance was found in her doping sample taken before her fight against the American, which was allegedly part of her prescribed medication for ADHD.

“It is with deep regret that I must announce that I failed the doping test I took the week before my bout against Holly Holm,” the Brazilian wrote on social media. “I want to start by saying that I have never in my life taken substances that improve my abilities in and out of the cage. My doping test tested positive for a substance contained in a prescription medication I take for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I have been dealing with this disorder my whole life and it affects me in many different ways”

“I have provided USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission with numerous documents and explanations describing my disorder, its impact on my daily life, and my decision to take prescription drugs. I am fully cooperating with USADA and NSAC so that all information is available to them, and I acknowledge the presence of the drug in my system. I stopped taking the drug a week before the fight, as I have always done in the past. So even though the substance showed up in my system in small amounts, the experts tell me that it could not have affected my performance at this level of competition”

The victory over “Preacher’s Daughter” was the Brazilian’s fourth in the series and allowed her to seriously consider a fight for the vacant UFC flyweight championship belt vacated by the retired Amanda Nunes.
