Max Holloway explained why he didn’t challenge Alex Volkanovski

After retiring Korean Zombie, former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway explained why he did not challenge the division’s current champion, Aleksander Volkanovski, to whom he had previously lost three times in title fights.

“I’m not here to challenge anybody,” Holloway said at a press conference in Singapore in response to a reporter’s pertinent question. “Your job, guys, is to figure it out. That’s the job of the fans to do for me.”

“I’m here to be undeniable, to continue to be undeniable. I keep climbing to the top of the mountain, and nobody’s going to stop me from getting there.”

“I’m not a matchmaker, but my undeniable arc is moving in that direction. Like I said, I’m not here to challenge and ask for fights. I’m just here to have a good time and make some money. We’ll see how things work out.”

The featherweight bout between Max Holloway and Korean Zombie, which headlined UFC Fight Night 225 in Singapore the day before, ended with the American winning by knockout in the third round, and the South Korean fighter announcing the end of his professional career after the loss.
