Mateusz Gamroth explained the challenge to Charles Oliveira

Mateusz Gamrot, who scored an early win over Ataman thanks to an injury to Rafael Fisieff, explained why after the fight he challenged Charles Oliveira, who will face current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in a month.

“I know that Charles will fight the champion soon,” Pole said at the press conference after UFC Fight Night 228. “My prediction is the result will be the same as last time. Islam will defend his title. I can wait for Charles until next year, until March, or even May – we will be ready to face him, and I want to do it”

“I want to test myself in a fight against Charles Oliveira because in the parterre he is the most dangerous guy in the division. My previous opponents always tried to stand up, it was too hot for them downstairs, but next time I would like to test myself on the ground. I want to show my jiu-jitsu skills and how good I am in the parterre. I think he’ll be the first opponent in my career who wants to fight me in the parterre”

Gamrot also spoke on a potential rematch with Fisiev, who injured his left knee in the second round with a right kick to the body and was unable to continue.

“We’ll see. Rafael is a good guy and I like him. We have a good relationship and I wish him a speedy recovery. I hope his injury is not too severe. Anyway, it’s not for me to decide. The decisions are always up to the UFC bosses.”

“My goal is championship gold. I want to beat everyone and get to the top. I want to fight opponents who are above me in the rankings, and we’ll see what the future holds for me. If the UFC schedules a rematch, I’ll accept it, but maybe not right now. In my next fight I want to fight one of the tops, show a good performance, and finish him in the octagon”
