Marlon Vera has accepted Sean O’Malley’s challenge.

No. 6 UFC lightweight Marlon Vera is ready to step up in December against Sean O’Malley, who challenged him after knocking out Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 in Boston to become the division’s new champion.

“Send me a contract,” the Ecuadorian fighter wrote on social media. “I’ll be fighting for a world title very soon and kicking his ass again.”

In August 2020, Marlon Vera inflicted the first and only defeat of his professional career on Sean O’Malley, finishing him by technical knockout at the end of the opening five minutes. Not the least role in the outcome of the fight played a leg injury, which the American suffered in the first round. O’Malley insists that the injury was accidental, while Vera claims that he hit his opponent’s leg with a low-kick that he had been working on in training camp.

Marlon Vera also took part in a numbered event this past weekend, defeating Pedro Munoz by unanimous decision. In doing so, he put his career back on a successful track after a loss to Corey Sandhagen, to whom he lost by split decision over five rounds in March of this year.

In theory, a title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera could take place on December 16 at UFC 296 in Las Vegas.
