The once “pound” ex-absolute world champion American Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs) will make his debut match in super lightweight this weekend – he will fight with Mexican gatekeeper Pedro Campa (34-1-1, 23 KOs).

On the eve of the fight, the ex-champion was asked about potential fights with stellar compatriots Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney.
Lopez believesthat “each of them has several obvious vulnerabilities. Haney has about 5-6 of these. Davis has about 3-4. And Garcia has too many of them – at least 10. And at this level, this is already a fucking problem. He’s actually a funny little guy. When he throws punches, he raises his jaw in such a funny way … Bro, the time will come and I will dissect each of these dudes.
Lopez again refused to “promote Garcia”, saying that “in super lightweight, I have one goal – to become a two-time undisputed world champion. I can pay attention to Garcia only if title fights are not available. And so, in this division, I’m most interested in (ex-undisputed champion) Josh Taylor.
Lopez was asked if his style would change, as at 63.5kg he would no longer have an anthropometric advantage over his opponents, making it harder to counterpuncher. Fighter response: “The beauty is that I work on all aspects. I am working on infighting and boxing from a long distance. I’m even working on becoming a real ambidexter. And in this division, I will change stances a lot more often during the fight. It’s like the work of an artist. I have my own style, my own art, but I work to constantly improve it. Think you’ve seen everything I have to offer in the ring? Dude, you have no idea how many tricks I still have up my sleeve … “
Interestingly, Lopez will soon be offered a WBA eliminator. The boxer’s father believes that Teofimo will be an absolute at 63.5 kg until the end of 2023.
