Lomachenko will be happy if his fight distracts Ukrainians from the war for an hour

34-year-old titled lightweight Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) hopes his comeback fight against the little-known but undefeated Jemaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KOs) will briefly distract the Ukrainians from the full-scale war that Russia unleashed against them in order to destroy the country and people.

He said in an interview
Yahoo! Sportsthat “our fights, fights during the war – if they give people the opportunity to be distracted for at least an hour or two from the news and the bad, that’s good.”

“I will be happy if my fight gives people a chance to get distracted, watch it instead of sticking in the news feeds,” said the boxer from Belgorod-Dnestrovsky (Ukraine).

Ortiz, we recall, set himself the task for this weekend: “Shock the world, beat Lomachenko.”

He added that he is not going to end his career anytime soon and plans to stay in the 61.2 kg category at least in 2023-24 and then see if he can go higher, for example, in search of a rematch with Teofimo Lopez, who defeated him a couple of years ago.

What do you think, “not everything is so clear”? Check out Ortiz’s combination. Able to upset a favorite?
