On March 1, 2014, two-time Olympic champion Vasily Lomachenko, who at that time had a professional record of 1-0, 1 KO, went into battle against the experienced Mexican slugger Orlando Salido (40-12-2, 28 KOs) to create a world sensation – to become the fastest world champion. That was exactly nine years ago.

The fight then went as expected: the big Salido pressed with accented blows, and the mobile Lomachenko worked as the second number, trying to punish him, but did not do enough at the same time.

In the final round, Vasily shocked, but failed to finish off the Mexican.

The record did not work: after a grueling fight, the opinions of the judges were divided in favor of Orlando. Lomachenko lost 112-116, 115-113 and 115-113.

The battle took place in the extremely turbulent days of the beginning of the occupation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia.

Since then, Salido is happy with how his boxing career has developed. He won the elections in Mexico, we recall.
