Lomachenko could become undisputed champion in early 2023: Arum’s plan

Former world champion in three categories, Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) will have the opportunity to fulfill his dream and compete for the title of undisputed lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) in early 2023 if he wins the fight against Jemaine Ortiz on October 29 (16-0-1, 8 KOs).

The head of the promotional company Top Rank, Bob Arum, confirmed that the goal is to bring Vasily to the fight against the winner of the rematch of the current absolute American Devin Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) and Australian George Kambosos (20-1, 10 KOs), which was officially announced the day before on 16 October.

“Vasily arrived in the United States with his entire family. He set up a training camp in the Los Angeles area and will fight on October 29, just in case, Arum informs. “Looking forward to Lomachenko fighting the winner of the Haney-Kambosos rematch in the first quarter of next year.”

Recall that the previous fight Lomachenko held in December last year, winning on points from Richard Commey.

Haney and Kambosos fought in early June – Devin confidently outboxed George by decision.
