Leon Edwards has challenged Conor McGregor to a challenge

Islam Makhachev is not the only UFC champion who wouldn’t mind sharing the octagon with Conor McGregor before the end of this year.

Reigning UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards, who is scheduled to make a title defense against Belal Muhammad in two months, is ready to face the Irishman in November if he can defeat Michael Chandler.

“One hundred percent! Why not? Let’s give him the opportunity to be the UFC champion in three weight classes and give me the opportunity to take McGregor out,” the Brit said on another edition of The MMA Hour program. “It would be great to have this fight in New York. If he beats Michael Chandler and I beat Belal, we can do it. New York, Madison Square Garden, let’s go! This is a fight that needs to happen.”

That said, Conor McGregor himself has made it clear that he’s not excited about the upcoming Edwards-Muhammad fight.

“Leon Edwards has too many decision wins,” the Irishman stated. “Leon Edwards loves decisions. And now he’s fighting another ‘decider’ Belal Muhammad. Not the best of times in the welterweight division title picture. That’s 200,000 pay-per-views, if not less”

As a reminder, a welterweight fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler on June 29 will headline UFC 303 in Las Vegas, while a bout between Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad will headline UFC 304 on July 27 in Manchester.
