Lemieux retired from boxing. In early August, his father was killed

Ex-world middleweight champion (up to 72.6 kg) David Lemieux (43-5, 36 KOs) “with a bright heart and head held high” leaves boxing. About it
reported press service of the promotional company Eye Of The Tiger Management.

Among his most spectacular performances is the victory over Gabriel Rosado in December 2014 in his first fight on HBO. In the fight for the IBF world title against Hasan Enzhikam in June 2015, Lemieux dropped the opponent four times.

There were also failures, like the sudden early L TKO 7 from veteran Marco Antonio Rubio in 2011 – the first fiasco in his career, and the subsequent L MD 12 to Joaquim Alzin. Then, in the fall of 2015, David lost L TKO 8 to unified champion Gennady Golovkin. Two years later, he declassed Billy Joe Saunders at the end of 2017 – L UD 12.

At the end of 2019, Ukrainian Max Bursak went to Canada and “lost” L SD 10 there.

The last time he entered the ring in May 2022, he was defeated in three rounds by David Benavidez.

Known as a puncher, the Canadian has brilliantly destroyed guys like Gary O’Sullivan, Curtis Stevens, Hector Camacho Jr., Fernando Guerrero or Glen Tapia in his career.

“I have achieved a lot. Fulfilled the dream of becoming a champion, gave the fans incendiary fights, accepted all the challenges. I devoted my life to training, boxing, and now I want to cherish every minute with my family. Thanks to the fans, thanks to the team,” said David.

On August 3, terrible news came: Lemieux’s father was killed. How
writes Montreal edition, two men were shot dead less than an hour and several kilometers apart in the evening, and police say the murders are likely linked. The first victim, a 64-year-old man, turned out to be Andre Fernand Lemieux, the boxer’s father.

Probably, it was this tragedy that prompted David to hang up his gloves on a nail.
