This was announced at a press conference in Las Vegas by UFC president, Dana White.
“Yes, it’s a possibility,” the organization’s leader stated. “I should find out very soon. I hope to give you an answer in a couple hours.”
At the same time, White assured that they have a backup plan for Chimaev, who could get a new opponent.
“We’re currently in communication with several people on that topic,” the UFC head explained.
Two days earlier, the Brazilian revealed that he had to undergo surgery on an elbow inflamed due to a staph infection, but expressed confidence that his fight with the Chechen would take place.
The fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa is listed as the second main event of UFC 294, which takes place Oct. 21 in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier it became known that Charles Oliveira dropped out of the event, and the new opponent of Islam Makhachev was Australian Alexander Volkanovski, who will pair with the Russian to headline the numbered show.
