Khamzat Chimaev will return to Russia for good

No. 8 ranked UFC middleweight, Khamzat Chimaev, who debuted in the world’s strongest league under the flag of Sweden, and recently represented the United Arab Emirates in the octagon, does not connect his future with any of these countries, and plans to return to Russia.

The Chechen fighter said this in an interview with ACA league vice-president Aslanbek Badayev.

“The homeland means everything to me, because I was born and raised here, and my blood is here,” “Borz” stated. “In the future, I want to come back and continue to do something better for my people. I won’t always be fighting. I have a lot of support, including from the head of the republic, Ramzan Akhmatovich, and my brothers, Eli, Akhmat, Adam. They help me a lot and I have never needed anything. I see how all Chechens support me, and I am proud of my people, proud of my friends and brothers who support me”

On Oct. 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, Hamzat Chimaev defeated Kamaru Usman by majority decision and was named the next challenger for the UFC middleweight championship belt, but lost his title shot to South African Dricus Du Plessis, who will challenge the division’s reigning champion, American Sean Strickland, on Jan. 20 at UFC 297 in Toronto.

According to the UFC’s plan, undefeated Khamzat Chimaev will face the winner of the title fight as soon as he heals his injury.
