The Chechen fighter’s manager, Mahdi Shammas, told ESPN. The renewed agreement was signed last Tuesday, four days before his fight against Kamaru Usman, who, if defeated, will become the next challenger for the UFC middleweight title and challenge current division champion Sean Strickland.
Earlier, the challenger status of the bout, which will take place in Abu Dhabi and will be the second major event of the UFC 294 tournament, was confirmed by the league’s CEO, Dana White.
Terms of the undefeated 29-year-old fighter’s new deal with the organization have not been disclosed, but Chimaev mentioned the day before that he receives about three million dollars per fight in the UFC.
Recall that the Nigerian took the fight with the Chechen on short notice, replacing Paulo Costa, who dropped out due to a staph infection.
Khamzat Chimaev is currently riding a six-fight win streak in the UFC, having finished American Kevin Holland by choke as early as the first round in his last fight.
