Khabib Nurmagomedov welcomes opponent’s replacement from Islam Makhachev

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who heads Islam Makhachev’s training camp, believes his charge has only benefited from Alexander Volkanovski replacing the dissected Charles Oliveira at short notice.

“Frankly speaking, Islam has had an amazing training camp,” MMA News quoted the Russian as saying. “One hundred days before the fight, Islam started training hard and today was the last day of heavy sparring. All the hard work is over.”

“Volkanovski is different from Charles Oliveira, and yes, we are going to change some things, but our goal remains the same. Same goal, same place, but now Islam is more motivated. He’s a lot more motivated. He’s a warrior, and when he goes to the cage, he always puts up a fight. It doesn’t matter how deep it is – he’s willing to go to the deepest depths.”

Recall that the lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski will be the main event of UFC 294, which will take place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.
