Kevin Lee: “I am proud that in the UFC I took fights that I was discouraged from. Gillespie, Chiesa, Trinaldo”

Former UFC interim lightweight contender Kevin Lee has revealed what he’s most proud of during his seven years with the promotion.

“Proud to go out and fight all these guys that I was told not to fight,” Lee said on The MMA Hour. Because it was dangerous and stupid. Chiesa, Trinaldo, Gillespie, even Tony Ferguson… But I went out and took those fights. My advice to all these young guys who are now flying into the UFC from the Conetender Series and all that crap – choose your opponents. Pick them up. Do not rush, like me, to fight with everyone. For the UFC, when you accept fights on short notice with anyone, you are the best friend. But after losing, they will just kick you out and forget you. Pick up fights, you’ll get further. Look at Sean O’Malley.”

Lee spent seven years in the UFC, gaining 11 victories and seven losses during this time. By October 2017, the 24-year-old American had a record of 9-2 in the promotion, but then he lost five out of seven fights.

Lee last fought in August of this year, losing by unanimous decision to Daniel Rodriguez. On December 1, the fighter was fired from the UFC.
