Kayla Harrison will again have the opportunity to field offers from potential suitors after she becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2023.
The two-time Olympic gold-medallist and PFL champion revealed Wednesday that she still has three bouts on her contract. This includes her fight with Larissa Pacheco at Friday’s 2022 PFL World Championships. She will still have two fights on her contract after that fight. However, once she is done, she can choose the next location.
“Well, I have two more fights left on my contract with the PFL,” Harrison said during an appearance on The MMA Hour. After Friday, I’ll have two more fights.
“I think [the contract] ends sometime in 2023. It ends immediately. So there’s no matching, no restriction, no 30 days, nothing.”
When Harrison previously hit free agency in 2021, she was still under a deal with the PFL that allowed the promotion to match any other offer she would receive.
Harrison had a lucrative contract offer from Bellator MMA, but the PFL opted to match the terms, which led to her return to the organization. Her three wins have been consecutive, with her fourth fight scheduled for Friday, New York City.
It appears this time around that Harrison will have the chance to pick and choose who she signs with, though that doesn’t mean the PFL is out of the running. She has already stated that she will not be returning to the 2023, PFL tournament format and wants fights that will make her the best female fighter ever.
” There are many paths to greatness but I am not yet there,” Harrison stated. “I haven’t been given the opportunity yet. Although I don’t have the proof yet, I feel ready. I believe I can beat [everybody].”
It is no secret that Harrison wants to fight Cris Cyborg, Bellator’s champion. This would be a great matchup and could make her the top fighter in Bellator. It remains to be determined if this fight will take place.
These days, Cyborg’s attention is on boxing with her professional debut scheduled for December. Her comments also suggest that she may return to Bellator in order to defend her title against Cat Zingano, an ex-UFC fighter.
Harrison still hopes for the chance to face Cyborg, though that’s the least of her worries right now.
“You know who we want,” Harrison said hinting at Cyborg. “Ask me on November 26. “I don’t give up until Saturday .”
Harrison’s fight against Pacheco serves as the main event on the first ever PFL pay-per-view, which airs on ESPN+ at a $49. 99 price tag.
According to Harrison, she wasn’t consulted about the timing of the pay-per-view, and she’s not earning any extra money from potential sales. But she had an issue with how it all came together.
” I’m slightly annoyed,” Harrison said. “No [cut of the pay-per-view]. Cyborg keeps saying that although I am not on the board, nor a decision-maker, it is clear that Cyborg does not consider me to be a member. “I would have liked to promote it better.” It would have been better .”
promoted.
Harrison believes that despite her previous victories over Pacheco her fans still desire to see her work hard in her third fight.
“I’ve got a job on Friday night,” she stated. “My job is to get in the cage and fight. To go out and cement my legacy, to continue on that path, and I hope people will tune in to see greatness in the making. I’m not there yet. Although we all know that I am not yet there, I can promise you I will. And when I get there, I guarantee you you’ll want to be there.
“Because I’m a bad motherf*****, and you can’t stop me. You want to watch.”
