This was announced by “Hailight’s” manager, Ali Abdelaziz.
“Who wants to see Justin Gaethje fight Max Holloway for the BMF title on Feb. 17?”, Abdelaziz wrote on social media.
This statement comes three weeks after Holloway announced his desire to move up to lightweight for a bout with Gaethje. The American’s willingness to risk a title shot against his compatriot suggests that the fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira can be considered a done deal.
Justin Gaethje, 35, is riding a two-fight win streak, having won by majority decision over Rafael Fiziev and knocking out Dustin Porier in a contender’s bout.
Max Holloway, 31, also won two fights in a row, defeating Arnold Allen by unanimous decision and knocking out Korean Zombie. In 2019, “Blessed” made an unsuccessful attempt to win the interim UFC lightweight championship belt, losing by unanimous decision to Dustin Puryear after five rounds.
Recall that UFC 298 is scheduled for Feb. 17, with a featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Elijah Topuria as the main event.
