Joshua’s trainer talks about Wilder fight

American-Mexican coach Robert Garcia impressed with his work with British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs). In August, in Saudi Arabia, he performed great in a rematch with the unified world champion Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs), but did not reach the victory – he lost by a separate decision of the judges.

Mentor
reacted to talk about a possible fight between the ward and the American puncher and ex-WBC champion Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs): “I think first both need to have a couple of intermediate fights. Wilder had one the other day. But Anthony needs two more fights to regain confidence in his abilities. I think they could fight at the end of next year.”

Garcia believes that “it would be a great fight, because everyone understands that this fight will definitely end in a knockout. And the one who first brings his fist to the goal will win. And this means that both will work hard to prepare not to be knocked out. I think this will be the most exciting fight in heavyweight. After all, both are very eminent, so attention to the fight is guaranteed. Of course, I would love to see this fight.”

Over the weekend, Wilder knocked out Robert Helenius of Finland in the opening round. Garcia’s opinion: “Nothing is clear about this fight. Did Wilder stay the same or did he give up? Now, if we saw Deontay in the 7th or 8th round, if we saw him in a really hard fight, then we could talk about something. That’s why I’m saying he needs one more fight before they face each other.”

It’s not a fact that Garcia will continue to cooperate with Joshua, but just in case, the coach praises the (ex?) ward: “Anthony has excellent technique. He knows how to fight smart. He doesn’t need to take risks because he has a solid jab and a great boxing base. He just needs to bet on his skills to win this fight.”

Meanwhile, Wilder’s coach is in solidarity with Garcia: he wants either Usyk or Joshua. He also suddenly spoke about Joyce: “He is much stronger than AJ and will easily beat Ruiz.”
