Leading British promoter Eddie Hearn has no doubts that his ward, ex-world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) will eventually enter the ring against compatriot, current WBC title holder Tyson Fury (32- 0-1, 23 KOs). Moreover, regardless of how his upcoming revenge on August 20 against last year’s offender from Ukraine Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) ends.
According to Eddie, Joshua could refuse an immediate rematch with Usyk and face Fury. However, Anthony chose to try to regain the WBA, IBF and WBO belts lost in September last year.
“He wants to be respected as a great fighter. And he’s a great fighter,” Hearn says of the ward. “He is in for a very difficult fight, but if and when he wins, let’s consider him one of the greatest in history. If Oleksandr Usyk is one of the top three in pound-for-pound, and he is, let Joshua be on that list (if he wins). I love that Anthony will come out as an underdog for the rematch, and rightfully so, because he lost the first fight.”

“Most people ask me: “When will Joshua fight Tyson Fury?” To tell you the truth, AJ might not have pushed for a rematch with Usyk and instead face Fury. This fight will always be the biggest fight in boxing, right? But Anthony doesn’t want that. He wants his titles back and thinks he can beat Usyk. And he needs to be given a lot of respect for that.”
“And the fight between Joshua and Fury, I am sure, will take place regardless of what happens on August 20th. But if and when Anthony wins (Usyk), this fight (with Fury) will be the biggest fight in the history of the sport. Not only of our generation, but at all times.”
Hearn also gave advice to Joshua on how to defeat Usyk.
